Berlin’s most modern prison, the youth detention centre JVA Heidering, was built just a few kilometres beyond city limits in the rural district of Teltow-Fläming.
Physical activity is especially important for inmates. It allows them to vent their aggressions without harming others and to develop a sense of their own body as well as train their stamina while also promoting social behaviour.
For this reason, we created a multi-purpose sports complex as part of a separate outdoor sports facility. It encompasses two football fields with artificial turf, as well as a jogging course with exercise stations.

Zimmer.Obst GmbH was commissioned to design and build the exercise stations.

The youth detention centre’s sports equipment was designed by Büro L7 as a so-called “frame family”.
Aesthetically-appealing gigantic oak wood constructions with a wood cross-section of 100 x 250 mm were built. The corner joints are connected by means of SIMPLEX connectors.
To ensure optimal sturdiness for the frames, special post anchors featuring an H-shaped profile were made.
The wood frames were outfitted with climbing poles, stainless steel rungs, exercise rings and much more to ensure that outstanding opportunities for engaging in physical activity and fitness are given.
The following sports equipment was supplied:

Pole frame “Rohr hoch – Rohr runter”
Hand-over-hand frame “Trimm-Dich-Ringe”
Sit-up frame “straff am Rahmen”
Pull-up frame “Klimmen + Klammern“
Balancing beam “Tippen + Tappen“
Cube frame “die Würfel sind gefallen”
Wall bars “an die Wand gespielt”
