The exact designation of this play area in Treuenbrietzen is “At the Barge Moat”. Planungsgruppe Grün, currently under the direction of Herr Heydemann, had already done much of the preparatory work with regard to research and a survey of future users.
The historically significant location “At the Barge Moat” with its distinctive green areas surrounding the rampart and connection to the historical town center formed the basis for planning efforts by the city. The opinions and wishes of the many dedicated children who were surveyed also flowed into planning and designing. A central idea was to create a space where young people could chat and literally “hang around.” The result is the seat assembly entitled \"Treu Bedacht\" (Treuenbrietzen – sheltered sitting). Neither is there a seating order nor is the way in which one sits predetermined. Only the rising height level of the intertwined and interlaced plank seating system could be said to represent group hierarchy. In other words, the boss sits at the highest level.
The degree of difficulty of the climbing facility “In the Meshes” also conforms more to the needs of older children. A high degree of dexterity and good motor skills are needed to negotiate the wobbly net surface. For smaller children there is a playground just a short distance away. Here, parents too will have more peace and quiet with their little ones as there are sand boxes and play objects of lower height and just a slight degree of difficulty.
Thematically-speaking, we revisited the city’s given historical past – the Middle Ages. Countless trading routes intersected with Treuenbrietzen; the city collected customs duties and traded blueprint cloth and slippers. Thus, an old rack wagon with a carriage horse makes up the central playground construction. Unfortunately, a wheel is broken and crates and barrels (the load) lie in disorder, the custom house is unoccupied, guards are standing on the hills and observing the proceedings. The horse seems quite content.
