International Garden Show (IGS)

Owing to our successful collaboration over the past years, in 2012 we were once again approached by Frau Nickel from Hamburg’s city planning office and asked to submit a design for a field windmill-themed playground for the 2013 International Garden Show in Hamburg. Based on old documentation and photographic images, we developed a playground shaped like an abstract field windmill. In bygone days, the fields (marshland) id this area were irrigated by means of field windmills!
The sub-construction incorporates a climbing frame incl. bench, rope-climbing and agility structure with rubber mats, a ladder, climbing net and two spiral tube slides. The superstructure, the actual mill house, serves as the slide exit and boasts a platform size of 2 x 2 m and a height of 3 m. The slide is mounted at a height of 4 metres. Obviously there are also giant windmill vanes; one of these serves as a very difficult ascent for climbing. The exterior cladding features an additional climbing wall with grips.
Next to the mill one can find a balancing / sitting object. It is an upright shaft used as a balancing beam on which a carved hamster is crouched.
