A jury composed of city government officials from Görlitz choose the ideas and designs proffered by Zimmer.Obst GmbH in a competition for the design of an adventurer and fantasy playground.

The number of play stations and the material to be used (oak) had been stipulated by the city government in advance.

Four essential elements were to be presented at the competition and later incorporated into the design:

1. The main entrance to the play area along the slope hugging the city wall was to serve as a “city gate with a drawbridge”

2. The highlight of this sloped playground was to be a “fortified tower” that serves as an observation platform and can be left by means of a tunnel slide

3. Three small platforms were to enable children to have a play-and-balancing-path from the slope to the tower

4. A small, abstract “townhouse” for the guards and the captain was to be integrated in the design

Children from the ages of 3 to 10 can immerse themselves in the fanciful fifteenth century playground located along the historical city wall and the Ochsenbastei (Ox Bastion).
Using original designs, the municipal coat of arms and banner were recreated on the “city gate”.
Little details including carved candles and “scurrying” carved mice surprise and delight children when they come to play here.
