Plans were put into place for the swaths of green and open spaces of Bielefeld to become more vibrant and appealing. New paths for biking and hiking through the so-called “Green Band” were planned as part of a city renewal project. Attractive links between the different paths were to be created and new attractions to serve leisure, relaxation and play purposes were also envisioned.
“Aufruhr im Gemüsebeet“ is the name given to the especially elaborate playground at Tönisplatz.
Matching the title, a rope-and-climbing course entitled “Kräuterpfahl” (herb stake) was set up. Giant carrots shaped out of cement protrude from the ground waiting to be climbed upon.
The “asparagus plot” boasts huge “spears of asparagus” that are carved out of robinia logs. These come equipped with stepping corners and are reminiscent of stilts. It thus proves to be an exciting climbing combination.
A double swing bearing the name “Hopfen & Malz” (hops and malt) is also available. Additionally, there is a slope-slide combo with a climb-up designed to look like asparagus spears. A bench for youths with two oversized oak wood spades rounds out the picture.
