The number of green areas is extremely low in the densely populated Maxvorstadt. As far as easy accessibility and diverse usability is concerned, the Maßmann Park is the only public green area. Plans outlined the construction of a playground and various recreational facilities for this public park. There was to be a playing field for the age group of 6-and-under as well as one for the 6-and- above age group. Constructive construction groups were envisioned for the playing field for the 6-and-under age group. The athletic character of the park was to be emphasized in keeping with the spirit of the individual in whose honor the park was named. Herr Maßmann was a passionate gymnast who lived around 1800 and was mentored by “Jahn, the father of gymnastics” in Berlin’s Hasenheide Park.
The playing field for older children was to be outfitted with a high, fenced-in main climbing tower and concomitant slide as well as difficult ascent possibilities. Across slanting beams and nets, good climbers can reach all the way to the top. Once there, the reward is an outstanding view across the park and neighboring areas. At the end of last year, we were commissioned with the construction of this playground by GaLaBau Schernthaner GmbH.
In close cooperation with the Munich-based LUZ landscape architects and Herr Großberger from the offices of Großberger Beyhl Partner, the building project was finished by March 2011 and the opening took place in June.
