Hay-Drying Poles Playground (Spielharpfe)

A wood construction for the drying of hay or grain.
Last year, the Bavarian Landessiedlung GmbH awarded us with the contract to build hay-drying poles incorporating various play stations and also serving as a playhouse. Based on ideas and designs by the Kassel-based Latz Riehl und Partner architectural office, we made plans for a play version of hay-drying poles.
In accordance with calculations by Herr Kern, a stress analyst from an engineering office for structural planning, we created a 2-leveled playhouse with a basic layout of ca. 4 x 19 m and a total height of ca. 7 m.
Pillars, purlins, cross bars and rafters were used as the load-bearing components. Structure reinforcement was ensured using squared timbers, pressure resistant vertical bracing as well as horizontal bracing at roof level.
It was agreed upon to have the TÜV SÜD carry out a safety-technical interim check on the finished basic structure, including all cladding and flooring. This was done on 19 April 2011. From this point, the individual play stations would be planned.
All of the play stations were integrated into the hay drying pole construction while two enormous slides were attached to the outer structure. The construction work was concluded in June.
The opening of the \"Spielharpfe\" play area took place in Munich at the end of August.
