Weirs playground ensemble at the Schlossinsel to mark the International Building Exhibition 2014

A new residential quarter is planned for the river island “Harburg Schlossinsel”. Below the historical Harburg Castle there is a new ca. 1.5-hectare-large park. This park, as well as the new playground, is meant to upgrade the residential area and enhance its appeal for families.
A playground that would thematically take up the nearby water and harbour was planned for this location by Zurich-based Hager & Partner.
A fish-trap ensemble for kids aged 6-10 is the main component of the playground. Here, the children can put to use their dexterity and motor skills. A separate sand-play area was established for toddlers and encompasses barrel-top tables for mud play, hammocks, a nest swing and climbing nets that give the appearance of fishing nets. As a whole, the playground thus gives an impression of the work of fishermen in times past.
