As part of an art competition, the city of Chemnitz asked us to submit a design and a model for a volcano-themed playground.
Both our design and the accompanying model construction won over the judges of the competition.
In our draft, we designated two play areas and related these to each other via a balancing stretch. It features a large climbing and playing area with a stylized volcano. Past complexly-angled planes in a black-and-red color scheme, you can go all the way up to the entrance of the colored tunnel slide.
The play area for toddlers is equipped with objects that allow easy climbing and group play. “A team of researchers” has “pitched their camp here to begin excavation work”. At the research station, it is even possible to generate light with a “generator”. A diary with several entries lies open upon a table.
The arena features a Jeep with a mechanical defect that needs to be repaired. Excavation objects (bones) jut out from the sand and tools and a toolbox lie scattered about. A difficult path (balancing course) above the “volcanic rock” joins both areas. Depending on their abilities, children can try a climb the big volcano.
