This playground, planned by the city and Herr Franken in 2010, lies directly at the Wupper River almost directly underneath an overhead railway. As a sort of compensatory measure, the public utilities company WSW Energie & Wasser AG stepped forward as the contractor and assumed the playground costs.
Thus, in collaboration with Herr Franken, a large, gaily-colored ship and sitting area for youths, apart from the other playground equipment, was planned.
The expansive playing area, with a view to Wupper River and the elevated railway that hovers above it, offers an exciting venue for all age groups. The awe-struck expressions of commuters who pass by on the elevated railway don’t go unnoticed and are often followed-up by a friendly wave.
As can be seen on the photos, the ship’s colors and the color of the youth seating area are precisely coordinated to match the elevated railway.
