Zimmer.Obst awarded the tender for a children’s playground in Bad Bederkesa

The tourist region Bad Bederkesa is located on the Northern German coastal plain.
To increase the appeal of this health resort for young families, plans for a new playground were introduced in the Spring of 2012. The ramshackle old playground “Am See“ desperately needed replacing.
The local community’s children were asked for input for the planned playground and their ideas were incorporated as part of the call for tenders to various playground equipment manufacturers. The main focus of this particular invitation to tender was not on cost but rather on the proposed playground’s play value and design!
Zimmer.Obst’s very clear, constructive design style in handling the “Maritime” theme brought it the very forefront of this competition.
The grounds target the following three age groups: 2-5, 6-11 and 12-14 years of age – with an own section for each distinct age group.
A cosy little fishing village was designed for the youngest age group; it features climbable fishing huts with little stairways and a slide and forms the “village centre”. In addition, there is also a climbing / crawling course consisting of a fish trap with box podiums and a sand box / sludge area as well as an a custom-designed wobbly boat.

For the age group spanning 6-11 years, a large Viking ship with numerous ornaments was built as the main focus of a so-called “Viking harbour“, which also encompasses a balancing / agility course and Viking cart.

To stimulate physical activity among youths, a basketball hoop was installed in the “robber’s den“ section of the playground where there are also “palm trees“ and “skull“ symbols, which are meant to stir their interest. A ship wreck-themed bench was installed for youths to relax on while watching their friends play basketball.

The new playground with its three separate sections was officially inaugurated in October 2012 and currently enhances the tourist appeal of Bad Bederkesa.
