As early as 2003, the Winkler planning office had been involved in first talks and dealt with design ideas for a nature playground in Hamburg at a location known as Grootmoor. In an effort to adapt to the location, we jointly planned for a coherent design to include elements reminiscent of dead moor wood and plants, somewhat eerie and ghostlike. That is why the “Grootmoor Ghosts” were created, visible as carved grimaces in the vertical trunks and also as five ghost stele along the pathway. These will be painted by schoolchildren during a school-related initiative.

In the area for small children near the lawn and picnic bench, an abstract representation of the so-called “Broken Hut Facade” can be seen. Here the little ones can climb and play hide ‘n seek. A winding path also passes though; it can be used by the children to scurry through the bushes past trees and boughs all the way to the Grootmoor Pond. On can either swerve past on the slide tower or cross the dry river bed using the wobbly bridge. From far off the Grootmoor cottage can be seen. This is a place more appropriate for adolescents for chatting and to be among themselves. From the upper deck one gets a good view of Grootmoor. You can proceed either up or down. The goings and comings from the bridge to the hut take place in flight- just like a ghost’s movement - on a 27-meter-long cableway. All vertical supports were painted symbolically as plants and trees growing up from the ground with a distinctively dark to light green, moor-like design.
